Jacques de Molay (c.1240/1250 - 19.03.1314) was the 23rd and last Grand Master of the Knights Templar. King Philippe IV of France, deeply in debt to the Templars, had Molay and many other French Templars arrested and eventually burned him at the stake on an island in the Seine river in Paris, on 19 March 1314. The sudden end of the centuries-old order and the dramatic execution turned Jacques de Molay into a legendary figure. Many modern organizations draw their inspiration from the Templar mystique and the memory of Jacques de Molay.
