Jerusalem Became Capital City of Israel



23 January 1950

Jerusalem (Hebrew: Yerushaláyim) was declared capital city after the establishment of the State of Israel on 23 January 1950. Jerusalem is a holy city to Judaism as well as Christianity and Islam. One of the many sacred buildings in the city is the prominent Dome of the Rock, an Islamic shrine and major landmark located on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
