Amedeo Clemente Modigliani (12 July 1884 - 24 January 1920) was an Italian artist. He worked mostly in France and became known for paintings and sculptures in a modern style characterized by mask-like faces and elongation of form. Exacerbated by poverty, overworked and addicted to alcohol and narcotics, he died in Paris of tubercular meningitis.
