Death of the painter El Greco



7 April 1614

El Greco (1541 - April 7 1614) was a painter, sculptor, and architect of the Spanish Renaissance. His nickname "El Greco" (The Greek) is a reference to his Greek origin. The artist used to sign his paintings with his full birth name, Doménikos Theotokópoulos, in Greek letters.
