"Working-cabinet" with music-clock, 1776.Marquetry, mainly acorn wood, also rosewood, gilded bronze fittings. Clock and its mechanism by Peter Kinzing. Made for Prince Karl of Lothringen. A similar cabinet was made for Louis XIV, who,according to his diary, "1779,mois d'avril le 11, j'ai paye aux Allemands pour une grande commode 2.400 livres". It disappeared during the First Empire. Charles Darwin (1809-1882), British naturalist and evolutionary scientist, working in his study room. His 1859 book "On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or The Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life" (usually abbreviated to "The Origin of Species") established evolution by common descent as the dominant scientific explanation of diversification in nature.
